UNIO and Combined Powers by KRONE Demonstrate Reliable Connectivity for Next-Generation Agricultural Automation

Connectivity is the backbone of automation, and yet, 50% of German farmers say network coverage is their biggest bottleneck (Bitkom, 2024).

Together with Combined Powers, by KRONE and LEMKEN, we tested our UNIO Move solution on an autonomous traction unit, addressing critical connectivity pain points for next-generation agricultural assets. The goal: deliver premium connectivity that makes autonomy and real-time operations not just possible, but reliable and scalable.

Combined Powers faced common challenges including unreliable connectivity, and the need to future-proof systems for bandwidth- and latency-heavy use cases.

With UNIO Move, we tackled these barriers by delivering always-available, AI-driven network switching, real-time cloud-based data transfer, a cost-effective modular setup, and high-performance connectivity ready for advanced applications like teleoperations and analytics.

Over the course of testing, uptime was excellent (>97%), with NTN fallback engaged around 4% of the time. Reliability and baseline latency were good, GNSS performance steady, and cloud integration promising.

Areas for improvement remain, particularly latency stability and throughput consistency, but the trajectory is clear: premium connectivity is the key enabler for the next generation of agricultural automation.

A huge thanks to the KRONE and LEMKEN team for the trust! We’re excited about what’s next.
